The world’s largest photo album, which contains historic and rare photographs of the late Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, was launched on Tuesday during the “A Touch of Fidelity” celebration, the Zayed Higher Organisation for Humanitarian Care and Special Needs (ZHO) announced on Monday.

The album, which has entered the Guinness World Records, consists of around 210 colour and black and white historic pictures.

The photos have been collected by special needs people at ZHO from several sources in cooperation with the Emirates Heritage Club and Abdullah Al Ka’abi, the photographer who accompanied Shaikh Zayed for many years during his various tours and visits.

Her Highness Shaikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union, Supreme Chairperson of the Family Development Foundation (FDF) and Head of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, was also honoured during the celebration which took place at the Emirates Palace Hotel.

“We are delighted to contribute to this project that will help in highlighting achievements and charitable initiatives by the late Shaikh Zayed and Her Highness Shaikha Fatima,” said Mohammad Fadil Al Hameli, deputy chairman and secretary-general of ZHO.

“The initiative came because we believe that special needs people possess strong capabilities and great potential which will help them to be productive members of society if an appropriate environment is provided to them,” Al Hameli told Gulf News earlier.

The event, which is held under the patronage of Shaikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs, will display a documentary film as a dedication to the ‘Mother of Emirates’ that demonstrates Her Highness’s leadership and achievements.

“The images, which have been included in the albums, document the humanitarian and charity accomplishments by the late Shaikh Zayed. The colourful photos were printed on 18 pages in addition to other black and white photos,” said Mariam Saif Al Qubaisi, head of the special needs department in ZHO.

“The album is 5.5 metres wide by 4.5 metres high and all those specifications and lengths have been reviewed by the Guinness World Records,” she added.
