Customs authorities in Aden reportedly confiscated a container loaded with a large quantity of handguns inside biscuit cartons in the Free Zone of Aden on Saturday.
The state-run Saba News Agency reported that an official in the customs authority said that the container coming from Turkey initially raised eyebrows during the censoring process.
An X-ray revealed that it contained substances different from what the importer had listed on required documents.
Fathi Bin Lazraq, editor-in-chief of the Aden Alghad news website, told Yemen Times that customs authorities continued to sort the container through Sunday morning and found that it contained 384 biscuit cartons with handguns inside.
According to a report by the AFP, the Defense Ministry's website, 26 September, reported that the ministry did not identify either the sender or the recipient of the cargo.
Several attempts were made to contact officials in Aden harbor, but they declined to comment.
