Young Afghan woman brutally stoned to death by Taliban

A young Afghan woman, identified by only her first name, Rokhsahana, was accused of adultery and stoned to death, reported AFP.

Authorities informed that Rokhsahana’s family had married her off against her will and that she was caught while eloping with another man her age.

In a 30-second clip published in Afghan media, Rokhsahana can be seen inside a hole in the ground while men hurl stones at her. She is reciting the "Shahada" (the Muslim profession of faith). Her voice grows high-pitched as the stones land on her.

Ghor's Governor, Seema Joyenda, has since verified the video footage.

Rokhsahna was killed about a week ago in Ghalmeen, a Taliban-controlled area, outside Firozkoh, the capital of central Ghor province.

Joyenda claimed that Rokhsahana was stoned by a gathering of "Taliban, local religious leaders and armed warlords.”

The man Rokhsahana eloped with was let off with a lashing, Joyenda's spokesman said.

Joyenda condemned the stoning in Ghor and called on Kabul to launch a military operation to rid the area of insurgents and other armed groups.

The recent three-day occupation of the northern provincial capital of Kunduz by Taliban insurgents warns of what could happen should the Taliban return to power.
