Egyptian Environment Minister Yasmine Fouad announced last month that the ministry is ready to launch a new environmental campaign to support the country’s natural reserves and ecotourism sector.
Titled “Eco Egypt,” the campaign, put on by the ministry of state for information and the tourism ministry, will raise awareness on the environment and promote green policies in the region.
Fouad and Minister of State for Information Osama Heikal addressed preparations for the new campaign’s launch and spoke of how the two ministries would cooperate in the endeavour and potential methods for promoting Egypt’s environmental tourism sector.
Heikal stressed that the media should play a role in raising awareness on environmental issues, particularly on how to protect and preserve natural resources.
The environment ministry aims to encourage visits to Egypt’s natural protected areas and further develop ecotourism. Fouad highlighted distinct animals, birds, plants and the quaint scenery that fills Egypt.
Highlighting Egypt’s unique natural areas to new audiences, the campaign aims to help revive both domestic and international tourism.
“It will also open the way for tourists interested in ecotourism to visit new places and learn about different cultures,” said Fouad, who added that the ministry is working to develop infrastructure in local protected areas.
As local residents often serve as cultural and environmental guardians of these areas, visitors will be able to gain a fresh perspective in these nature reserves.
