ALBAWABA - According to a recent report published on the Elpais website, psychological experts emphasize the profound impact of parental absence on a child's development. Whether due to work demands, travel, divorce, or death, the absence of a father or mother can have serious consequences.

Dr. Eason Mendia, a child psychologist, highlights the various ways in which parental absence affects a child. He underscores that the lack of affection directly impacts the child's emotional, physical, and mental well-being, often leading to feelings of abandonment. The physical absence of a parent deprives the child of the structured family environment and boundaries necessary for healthy growth.

According to Dr. Mendia, absent parents leave children emotionally deficient, resulting in disturbance, loneliness, and emptiness. This affects their personality and relationships, leading to low self-esteem, emotional struggles, insecurity, sadness, and academic problems. Some children may develop defensive behaviors to hide their negative emotions, such as excessive confidence, arrogance, aggression, or rebellion.

To mitigate the negative effects of parental absence, Dr. Oscena Diez, a specialist in child and adolescent psychiatry, emphasizes the importance of quality time spent between parents and children.

She recommends that parents compensate for one another's absence by explaining the situation to the child and reassuring them that the absence is temporary. It is crucial to increase attention and dedicate more time to the child, ensuring love is continuously conveyed through words and actions.

By prioritizing quality time, physical contact, and open communication, parents can help alleviate the emotional burden children face when a parent is absent. Consistent reassurance and understanding go a long way in helping children navigate their emotions, build self-esteem, and foster healthier relationships with the world around them.

Parental absence is undoubtedly a challenge, but with mindful attention, love, and support, children can overcome these difficulties and thrive in an environment that fosters their emotional growth and well-being.
