A Cairo Appeals court has accepted an appeal filed by Egyptian legendary comedy actor Adel Imam which exempts him from a court ruling passed previously. He is now let off a three-month jail imprisonment and a fine of 10 thousand Egyptian pounds for contempt of religion in his films.
According to MBC.net, the court inspected a whole archive of films for the actor for material deemed insulting to Islam. The screening panel failed to find a single incident of him disparaging Islam in any filmed content.
The court further ruled that those that filed the lawsuit against the actor accept full liability for all outstanding legal fees.
Adel said in response to the court’s verdict that he is very happy to have been found innocent of contempt of the religion and considered the verdict a victory Egypt's 'Hollywood'. For him, this judgement reflected the transparency of the Egyptian judicial system which he never lost faith in.
The actor added that he is grateful that the whole nightmare was over.
What do you think? Is the whole Islamic legal campaign against Adel Imam over? Can the actor embrace a restored freedom?
