After six years of separation prominent Egyptian comedian-actor Adel Imam returned back to work with famous scenarist Waheed Hamed. The new project the two are working on is quoted from the novel “Aamaret Ya’qoubian” and filming is scheduled to begin in the few coming weeks.
The director for the new film will be Marwan, the son of scenarist Waheed Hamid, and he is given a strong start as his first step into directing. The movie is about fighting corruption and Adel performs the role of a high ranked official who is suspected to be involved in different acts of corruption.
According to the London based daily, Al Quds Al Arabi, Adel voiced that he was not on bad terms with Waheed for the past six years, and its just that Waheed was writing stories that were not suitable for him.
About working with a fresh director, Adel stressed that it is a good thing to support and cooperate with the young generation and described director Marwan as an open minded enthusiastic director. Adel said that he decided to make two movies a year and not only one as he used to do for the past few years due to the great success his movies are facing.
Recently,Imam and scenarist Yousif Maati have been accused of stealing the story of the “Arees Min Jiha Amnia”, which is Adel’s latest movie, from writer Mohammad Othman Al Najm. Othman revealed that he had written the story over five years ago, but under the title “Ajiz” (Hopeless).
Othman stressed that he was shocked to see his story turned into a movie starring Adel and more surprised to learn that credits for its writing were given to Yousif. Othman added that the odd thing of the matter was that he had registered his story in the year 2000 in order to protect his rights and paid all the due bills, but the Egyptian Censorship Committee had refused his story to be turned into a movie at the time.
Othman stressed that he will file a lawsuit against Yousif and Adel for stealing his story saying that its clearly corruption. He added that he is disappointed at the censorship for refusing his story and agreeing to the stolen version of Yousif. -Albawaba.com
