The Cairo Economic Court has revised the initial compensation fee served to the A-list Egyptian singer Angham. She was caught out unlawfully singing three songs belonging to the Egyptian record label ‘Alam El Phan’.
Angham was ordered to pay a fine of 18 thousand Egyptian pounds for being in breach of copyright. ‘Alam El Phan’ had previously demanded a compensatory fee of 200 thousand pounds after Angham sang the songs during a televised concert without obtaining their permission. After the company filed a lawsuit against the singer, Angham was fined 4 thousand by a preliminary court, but soon after the company filed an appeal, the fine was supplemented to 8 thousand pounds.
The company, still determined to slap on more fines where it could, had filed another complaint to the misdemeanor court that also left the singer an extra 10 thousand pounds short.
All in all, the whole 'fine' palaver has left the singer lost for words as well as the sum of Egyptian pounds paid after all the ammendments and supplements.
