ALBAWABA - With GTA 6 banned in several countries ahead of its release, Australia seems to have taken a different approach by forcing players who wish to play the game to use a real ID to verify their age following the country’s new online safety laws.
The most anticipated game is set to launch on November 19. However, excited players can pre-order GTA 6's $80 standard and $100 Ultimate Editions for in-game bonuses.
According to Rockstar Games, Grand Theft Auto VI: Ultimate Edition will offer users "the most immersive GTA experience yet" by featuring premium vehicles, weapons, cosmetics, and access to activities throughout Jason and Lucia's story. Many fans criticized the company for its "predatory" approach to locking content behind a paywall despite the game's already hefty $80 price tag.
Australian GTA 6 players will need real ID to play, Rockstar to pay $49.5 million if breach occurs
The country's new online safety laws were met with speculation and debate, with many locals citing concerns about sharing their private data online, including national IDs, driver's licences and selfies.
According to News.com.au, Australia passed the law in March, meaning users will have to provide Rockstar with their real-life ID if they wish to play the R18+ game.
Dexerto reported, citing the Australian outlet, that Rockstar could face penalties up to $49.5 million per breach for non-compliance.
This all comes as GTA 6 fans await the release of the game's third trailer, which will reportedly feature gameplay and more about the Jason and Lucia storyline.
