Shnit International Short Film Festivalwill be hosted in Cairo from 8th-11th October for the 4th year in a row. The festival will screen a selection of international short films presented in the ten shnit OPEN film blocks as well as four film blocks that are put together to fit any kind of special mood or interest such as schnit DOCUMENTS, Schnit ANIMATES, FEEL GOOD and HEAVY shnit.
Not only that, but four new film blocks have been curated by SEMAT and the Arab Cinema Center to promote and focus on Arab and Egyptian short filmmaking where the audience will get a chance to discuss the screenings with the filmmakers in some cases. With a number of events for film enthusiasts, the festival is spreading in Cairo and the short films will be screened at various cultural spaces such as Room Art, Space, Rawabet, Teatro Maadi, Netherlands-Flemish Institute and Cinema Radio.
The short films are competing for the Five Flaming Faun Awards where each one includes a grant of 20,000 USD. The festival’s closing ceremony will be held in New York City, USA, where the winners of the international competition will receive their awards.
The 13th edition of the festival screens its films in Hong Kong, Bangkok, Bern, Buenos Aires, Cape Town, Moscow and San José all at the same time celebrating short films around the globe.
