Rap superstar Jay Z will headline this year's Abu Dhabi Grand Prix F1 after-race concerts, it has been confirmed.

The '99 Problems' rhyme-smith, who has never played a public gig in the UAE before, will perform on Friday, November 1 - as revealed by 7DAYS on Sunday.

The concert will be at the du Arena in the capital.

Mike Fairburn, vice president of marketing and communications at gig organisers FLASH Entertainment, said: "Jay Z is an icon. We are absolutely delighted to bring an artist of his quality to the UAE - we've worked hard to bring him here, this has been a four year job.

"He's an absolute quality performer, his shows are unbelievable. Hip hop is probably number one in the UAE - the fans have something to look forward to."

7DAYS reported on Sunday that an insider had revealed Jay-Z would complete the line-up for the after-race concerts, even though the official announcement wasn't due until today. Also in the line-up are UK rockers Muse, who take to the stage on Saturday, November 2 before their fellow countrymen Depeche Mode sign off on the Sunday after the Grand Prix.

Jay Z, 42, is married to pop star Beyonce and has had more number one albums than any other solo performer in US music history.

Ticket holders for the 2013 Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix will be able to attend all four concerts as part of the entry ticket privileges – called Y1 Access.

Tickets are available from www.yasmarinacircuit.com or via the call centre 800 YAS (927).
