ALBAWABA - Liam Payne's fiancée, Kate Cassidy, said they had only planned to spend five days in Argentina before he passed away on October 16 from a fall from a third-floor balcony.
Just two days before the singer's death, 25-year-old Cassidy returned to her Miami, Florida, residence, abandoning Payne in Argentina. She claims that the couple's initial intention was to spend no more than five days in the nation, but that their stay was ultimately prolonged.
"I was so ready to leave," Cassidy stated in her video diary chronicling her journey back to the US. Though I like South America, I despise settling down for lengthy periods of time. Plus, our original plan was to stay for around five days. I was thinking, "I need to go home" after two weeks.
Payne, who was 31 years old when he died, fell at a hotel in the Palermo district of Buenos Aires and died instantly. Authorities in the area are still trying to piece together what happened to Payne before they do a thorough autopsy.
According to the Sistema de Atención Médica de Emergencias (SAME), Payne made a 911 call from his hotel immediately before the collision, stating that he was reporting an aggressive man who could be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
On October 2 at Movistar Arena in Buenos Aires, the "Little Things" singer—who became famous when he competed on season five of The X Factor fourteen years ago—was seen attending a performance by his former bandmate Niall Horan.
From her vantage point inside the arena, Cassidy broadcasted the performance, which included her dancing with Payne. "What a delightful show," she captioned her TikTok video. She also shared many "vlogs" documenting their South American vacation, which included bowling, meals, and getting ready for the night.
They dated for two years until the singer of "For You" died away. During their relationship, Cassidy and Payne often wrote about one another on social media. The influencer had just posted a photo from their September vacation to Greece, and Payne had posted a mirror selfie with Cassidy from their trip to Argentina on Instagram just hours before he passed away. Cassidy has not commented on Payne's death just yet.
Yesterday, his family asked for "privacy and space at this awful time" in a statement sent via a spokesman.
Our hearts are devastated. We will remember Liam for his courageous, humorous, and kind spirit, and his memory will remain in our hearts forever, according to the statement. "Our family is doing its best to support each other."
