Like a prayer for peace.
Like a prayer for peace.

Known for her controversial performances in the Middle East this year, The Queen of Pop, Madonna, has topped the list of biggest-selling tours in 2012.

Her sexually-charged provocative shows were met with mixed reviews in Dubai. The “MDNA” tour was billed as a Peace Tour, but featured Kalashnikov rifles and a gaudy religious iconography, mixing Arabic calls to God’s grace with crucifixes.

It was all a bit like a prayer for the Middle East, blending provocative dance moves with a mish-mash of blood-soaked political and religious imagery and same-sex smooching.

Questions over whether the 53-year-old would soften her shows for a Middle East audience were firmly laid to rest.
The queen of pop certainly left her mark on the region. But her controversial style proved too damn hot for some.
