ALBAWABA - Meghan Markle believed that her social level was "higher than Victoria Beckham's."
Recently, a divisive new book about the Beckham family made news, claiming Meghan Markle "deceived" herself into thinking she was higher on the social scale than Victoria Beckham.
Celebrity historian Tom Power, in his book The House of Beckham, explores the explosive interactions between the Beckhams and other stars.
"In Meghan's celebrity universe, rankings were based on wealth and fame," Power said. Meghan misled herself as a seasoned employee, believing she was above Victoria in the social hierarchy because she was part of the royal family. When she found out the Beckham family had far more riches than her, she became enraged. They owned five properties, always had access to private jets, received invitations to yachting events, and had significantly more wealth than she did. She quickly adopted a duchess.
Meghan apparently decided to put herself higher than Victoria on her internal social scale, but the Beckhams have reportedly made an effort with her, particularly given their close relationship with Prince Harry and William.
Power said that "one of Victoria's staff gave Harry's fiancée advice on the best facials and hairdressers in London" when Meghan moved into Kensington Palace.
Meghan also reportedly asked Victoria if she could provide her free purses and outfits, but the palace reportedly "rejected this as being against its rules."
Meghan apparently thought back on the generosity the Beckham family showed her on a special trip to Los Angeles, staying at their Beverly Hills home. "She used the paparazzi's avoidance as a justification." Beckham's crew discreetly attended to all of her requirements at no expense," Power said.
The Beckhams disregarded any indication that Meghan was taking advantage of her new circumstances.
