Egyptian actress Muna Zaki is not in the least bit hesitant about taking a role as a dancer in a nightclub. In the new television drama “Dunia Asia” that is scheduled to air during the Ramadan season of 2013, she plays ‘Asia’, is a pole dancer. When asked if this is suitable during such a holy month as Ramadan, Muna said, ‘There is no problem in presenting a role of a dancer in Ramadan,” stressing that the role is about the personal and private life of Asia and her surroundings.
In regards to whether wearing dancing costumes is also suitable in Ramadan, Muna stressed that such a wardrobe is essential to reflect the role she is playing and she will wear whatever is necessary to make her character more convincing, even if the drama is removed from the Ramadan drama marathon. She added she is not afraid of the reaction or even the shock of her fans from being in such a edgey piece.
Muna explained that the life of an artist required her to perform an array of roles so that that fans not grow accustomed to any static persona. She loves that the character of Asia is so complex. The writer of the “Asia’s World” Abbas Abu Al Hassan gives the hidden, unseen sides of a dancer’s life that will surely be a surprise to all who watch the drama.
The drama will be produced by the company ‘Shadows’ which is owned by Muna’s husband Egyptian comedian actor Ahmed Helmy. It will be directed by Mohammad Bakir and will also star actor Basim Samro, who will play the nightclub’s owner.
