Egyptian star Nelly is gearing up for the new TV series called Kaf Al Arousa (Bride’s Palm) based on a pop song for children called Sousah Kaf Arousah, according to the Arabic daily Al Bayan.

The series tells the story of a soft and romantic girl who, despite her big aspirations, is faced with reality. Everything in her life becomes dominated by money in this age of globalization.

Before the girl surrenders to despair, she meets a young man who falls in love with her and rescues her from falling down under the wieght of life's difficulties.

The series was scripted by Muna Noor Eddin and directed by Ahmed Saqer, after he wrapped up the series Hadith Al Sabah Wal Masaa (Morning and Evening Speech).

Costarring in the series are Ibrahim Yusri and a number of prominent stars.

Some performances and light songs appear in the drama, particularly in flashback scenes, in addition to other performances that fit into the storyline itself.

The performances are there to cast light on the dreamy and romantic character of the girl, who sees the bright side of life and who does not have a shred of jealousy or belligerence.

“Nobody will believe me if I say that I have said no to nine new performances, including films and series, and chosen to return to a romantic series. This is due to the fact that we no longer care about romance in our work, as if it had become unfashionable, although it is one of the most difficult types of art.

"Writing in this field requires expert authors who can interpret their feelings properly in order to help the actor play his or her role with honesty that can captivate the audience, as was the case in the old Egyptian movies."

Among these films, she said, were those by renowned actors Faten Hamamah, Emad Hamdi, Shadia, Kamal Al Shinnawi, Suad Hosni and Rushdi Abaza –
