Several sources revealed that the big surprise Ruby is preparing for her audience, which her director Sharif Sabri has hinted at, is the debut of her younger sister Kooky. In complete secrecy, Sharif is holding extensive working sessions with Kooky to train her to be a singer as well as giving her dance lessons.
According to the Qatar based daily, Al Raya, the surprise of launching Kooky in a new duet with Ruby came as a coincidence, when she requested of Sharif to turn her into a star. Ruby had at first refused the idea of singing a duet with her sister due to the fact that the latter does not have the talent for singing. The matter became worse and a fight broke out between the two sisters that almost lead to them not talking to one another.
Sharif intervened and tried to convince Ruby that her sister holds some talent that could be built on to make her a successful singer. He added that having them sing together was the best way to launch Kooky, especially since there is a strong resemblance between them.
Since the fifties, Egyptian singers tried to use their success in singing to have an acting career and the first one to start the trend was singing legend Abdul Halim Hafiz, who was the only one to succeed in both acting and singing.
Many others tried but most of them stopped after the first or second movie because they felt that failure will face them if they went any further. Among those who tried and stopped were Hani Shaker, Afaf Radi, Majida Roumi and Latifa.
Ruby was guided by Sherif Sabri to enter the acting world, wanting to use her in the cinema and get more profits. Sherif produced a low class movie to cut the cost and wrote a flaw story, which gave Ruby the full two hours of the movie that was supposed to be a comedy. Sherif was very greedy and went too far in estimating the value of his star but the movie waked him up to realize that Ruby lacks the talent and that he lacks good planning.
Despite the various offers to act, Haifa, Nancy Ajram and Dianna Haddad refused to participate in movies and preferred to stick with what they are good at doing. These singers proved that they got the wits to keep their success and not to end their career by becoming greedy.
Ruby managed to bring some profits from her first acting experience in the movie “Sabi’ Warakat Kotcheena” (Seven Playing Cards), after it had been experiencing losses in its first weeks of screening. Showtime bought the exclusive rights to show Ruby's movie and the movie will be broadcasted on Showtime's Cinema Home channel. Sabri announced that the singer’s film will be screened on Showtime, and in Dubai and Beirut uncensored with all the seventeen scenes that were cut in Egypt by the censorship committee. –Albawaba.com
