If you want to see every piece of the television drama ‘Hekaya Hayat’ (A Life’s Story) starring Ghada Abdel Raziq, then you shouldn’t tune into satellite channels ART and Abu Dhabi TV. These two stations said many scenes were too intense and provocative, leaving them unfit for Ramadan with strong use of language as well. They took matters into their own hands and deleted the ‘inapprope’ parts.
The Egyptian satellite channel CBC, which has exclusive rights to air the drama in Egypt, didn’t take on quite the same strong stance and merely placed a viewer’s advisory that the drama contains language and scenes inappropriate for young viewers, while still airing the production in its totality.
According to the Middle East news portal Elaph, one of the drama's cast said that the contracts between the producing company and channels airing the drama do not contain any penalty for making alterations to the scenes, stating that censorship on channels differs from one another.
It was added that the scenes that were omitted did not affect the outcome of the story or course of events in the drama.
