English musician Sting said Friday that he will perform on November 12 at the Bataclan music hall, one of the sites that was targeted last year during a spate of terrorist attacks in Paris.
The concert will be the first to be held since November 13, when three gunmen stormed the music hall during a show by US band Eagles of Death Metal and killed 90 people. One hundred and thirty people died as a result of the coordinated attacks around Paris.
The Grammy-awarding winning musician said he was holding the concert as a tribute, the night before the attack's one-year anniversary. Revenues from ticket sales will benefit victims' organizations.
"In re-opening the Bataclan, we have two important tasks to reconcile. First, to remember and honour those who lost their lives in the attack a year ago, and second to celebrate the life and the music that this historic theatre represents," Sting said in a statement posted on his website.
"In doing so we hope to respect the memory as well as the life affirming spirit of those who fell. We shall not forget them."
