MKF Secures ISO 26000 Social Responsibility Certification

Marking an important advancement in the integration of responsible practices across its institutional framework, AlMabarrah AlKhalifia Foundation (MKF) has attained certification for ISO 26000, the international guidance standard for corporate social responsibility (CSR).

The ISO alignment was achieved in collaboration with the CSR Regional Network and with the support of Kooheji Foundation, reinforcing MKF’s position as a leading nonprofit organization committed to internationally acknowledged approaches to governance, sustainability, and community impact. It represents a significant leap toward developing an integrated operating model that balances social value with operational efficiency.

As part of the process, MKF conducted a comprehensive audit of its internal policies and procedures to conform them with the core subjects addressed by ISO 26000. These encompass corporate governance, human rights, labor practices, environmental protection, fair operating practices, consumer issues, and community involvement and development.

The detailed review enabled the Foundation to further embed transparency, accountability, and sustainability throughout its operations, providing a stronger basis for responsible decision-making and lasting community outcomes. The recognition reflects MKF’s commitment to embedding international best practices across the organization while pursuing outcomes that correspond with national priorities and global development objectives.

Commenting on the occasion, Her Highness Shaikha Zain bint Khalid Al Khalifa, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of MKF, affirmed that this milestone advances the Foundation’s vision of establishing social responsibility as an institutional ethos rather than a series of temporary initiatives. She noted that harmonizing institutional practices with ISO 26000 demonstrates MKF’s commitment to following international guidance that enhances organizational effectiveness and extends the reach of its social impact. Her Highness added that this step complements the Kingdom of Bahrain’s coherence with sustainability principles and the ongoing community service contributions made by local institutions.

She also explained that the process was not limited to reviewing policies and procedures, but extended to cultivating a values-driven organizational culture and deepening the teams’ understanding of how social responsibility applies across various areas of the Foundation’s work. This, she emphasized, will more intricately connect MKF’s developmental objectives with the evolving needs of the community, thereby strengthening its capacity to deliver enduring positive change.

The recognition builds on MKF’s continued efforts to advance its initiatives through a strategic methodology informed by global best practices. It also reinforces the Foundation’s role in community development through innovative solutions that empower individuals, build their capabilities, and enable them to actively contribute to Bahrain’s progress.

ISO 26000 is one of the world’s leading frameworks for social responsibility. Designed for organizations of all types and sizes, it provides thorough direction for operationalizing responsible principles in a way that strengthens organizational performance while staying considerate of social and environmental dynamics.

Developed through broad international consensus, the standard helps institutions incorporate CSR considerations into their strategies, systems, and daily work. Its application also contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and supports organizations in operating credibly within responsible and modern institutional contexts.
