Dick Cheney is far from an angel when it comes to his Middle East policy, but if you're still looking for a scale to measure exactly how ridiculous Donald Trump's proposal to ban Muslims from entering the US, Cheney's reaction might be a good start.
During an interview with conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt, he made his thoughts very clear.
“Well I think this whole notion that somehow we need to say no more Muslims and just ban a whole religion goes against everything we stand for and believe in. I mean religious freedom’s been a very important part of our, our history,” he told Hewitt.
On Monday, Trump called for a “total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our country’s representatives can figure out what is going on”. His statement drew criticism from across the board, with both both Democrats and Republicans rushing to condemn him.
Cheney’s response is not the only one from the Republican side condemning Trump. New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie called the proposal “ridiculous” while Jeb Bush called Trump “unhinged”.
