A photo for an Iranian young woman in the World Cup dressed in a short skirt with the colors of the Iranian flag is going viral on social media. The extraordinary part of the photo is not the girl itself, however, the hijab she appears wearing in her ID image has been the key detail of the photo.

The photo was widely shared among social media users, yet the girl hasn’t been identified, and the reasons why she appears without the hijab, just like in her ID, remain unknown.

However, it brought back the topic of the compulsory wearing of hijab in the Islamic Republic of Iran to lights.

Some people cheered the girl for her bravery and pride,

On Reddit, users claimed the image was taken in Iran where women are forced to wear hijab, while others speculated it was taken in Russia during one of the Iranian matches in the World Cup. The ID photo was taken in Iran where Iranians have to do their paperwork.

One Iranian user responded explaining the Iranian point of view on why such an image can be seen in Iran.

Other users argued over the compulsion of wearing hijab in Iran.

The viral image was shared at a time when Iranians are witnessing a huge historic step last week, when authorities allowed female football fans to enter Iranian stadiums to watch a live broadcast of the Iran-Spain match, breaking a 40-year ban on women in stadiums.

The topic of mandatory hijab in Iran is growing dissatisfaction among Iranians in the last few years, according to the Center for Strategic Studies, which operates as part of the Iranian president's office. Meanwhile, the Iranian current President, Hassan Rouhani has earlier expressed his opposition to the law. His constitutional powers are limited, stopping him from making any reform.
