Palestinians have today been commemorating the anniversary of the beginning of the First Intifada which began on 8 December 1987.

It was on this day 29 years ago that four Palestinians were killed when an Israeli army vehicle collided with their car, causing protests which evolved into a wave of resistance against the occupation.

In 2016, it seems that little has changed as yet another Palestinian teenager was shot dead by the Israeli army in Nablus this morning.

By the end of the Intifada in 1993 nearly 1,500 Palestinians and 185 Israelis had died.

Come alive the stone Jerusalem, the lemon tree, the slingshot of the child, the song or martyr, the walking stick of the marabout Sheikh, as they are the only constants in this battle.

Resisting the occupier is a duty even if with stones, until Palestine returns to independence.

12/8 we ignited [the intifada] with our own hands, with the whole world watching. And from that day until today the world is satisfied to watch us [and not do anything]

On the anniversary of the First Intifada today, from all of the blood that stretches since eternity on this earth, to refugee camps this morning. Resistance is our choice, not others.

The anniversary of the First Intifada, The Intifada of the Children of the Stones 12/08/1987 Lest we forget 8 December 1987. The most honorable and the purest uprising of human history. RIP to the martyrs.

Ultimately, the Intifada was concluded by the signing of the Oslo Accords, creating the Palestinian Authority and marking the beginnings of Palestinian self-governance in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
