Khaled Meshaal, the political chief of the Palestinian movement Hamas, on Thursday slammed the method used by American special forces to kill Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden and his burial at sea. According to AFP, Meshaal urged the West to "recognize the atrocity of the American raid and the burial at sea."

"Arabs and Muslims are human beings and the West should treat them as such, regardless of whether they are partisans or opponents of Osama bin Laden."

Soon after bin Laden's killing was declared on Monday, Hamas' PM in Gaza, Ismail Haniya, said condemned this act. That drew a sharp reaction from the United States, with State Department spokesman Mark Toner calling Haniya's remarks "outrageous."

Senior clerics in Egypt have also said the method violated Islamic rites.
