Five members of the ruling family in Abu Dhabi were dismissed from the Executive Council of the emirate on Sunday in a reshuffle which was considered an attempt to inject new blood into the Council. Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, has carried out the reshuffle which is the largest seen in the emirate for the past several years.
The WAM news agency said that the United Arab Emirates president has decided to re-appoint Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to the post of Chairman of the Executive Council of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
Political analysts said the major reshuffle indicates Sheikh Mohammed is sending a clear message that he wants to rely on people making a "sincere" effort to implement the development plan called Abu Dhabi 2030.
The Executive Council, which saw the number of its members decreased from 18 to 14 members, is acting as the Council of Ministers in the emirate, and oversees the implementation of major development plans. Abu Dhabi, the capital of United Arab Emirates, controls nearly 95 percent of the oil resources of the UAE.
A government official who asked not to be identified said the reshuffle was aimed at pumping fresh blood to allow more dynamic decision making process. It also aimed at giving an opportunity for new generations to contribute.
