Authorities in the United States have sent back 250 Egyptians for violating immigration rules since the September 11 attacks, a Cairo airport official said on Wednesday.

Most of those who returned were young men whom the US authorities arrested for questioning after September 11, 2001 for periods ranging between one and six months, the official told AFP.

US authorities asked them on relations they had with other people in the United States, he said. They returned to Cairo in groups of up to four people under FBI escort, and all of them had violated US immigration rules, he added.

For his part, Egyptian Interior Minister Habib Al-Adly last March confirmed that an unspecified number of Egyptians were detained from the US-led war on Afghanistan at the US naval base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. (Albawaba.com)
