Seven villages have been purged of Daesh militants in Achin district of eastern Nangarhar province, the Afghan National Army (ANA) said on Thursday.
A statement from the 201st ‘Selab Corps said an operation was conducted by Afghan Special Forces in different parts of the restive district -- a stronghold of the insurgent group.
Abdulkhel Bazaar, Kama, Washkhel, Nargusi, Mazdaki and Paikhi localities of the town were cleared as a result of the offensive. Many militants were killed and wounded, the army said without giving specific figures.
Residents say the fighters disappear when an operation is launched, but return once the security personnel leave the area, where a massive operation was conducted some months back.
