Afghanistan’s President Hamid Karzai will begin a state visit on Friday to Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Qatar, officials said Monday.
Karzai will hold bilateral talks with Saudi King Fahd and discuss possible financial assistance with officials in each of the three countries before returning to Kabul on October 2, said Tayyab Jawad, Karzai's chief of staff, according to The Associated Press.
The Afghan authorities have been reluctant to provide details of Karzai's schedules, citing security concerns. Karzai was the target of an attempted assassination on September 5 in his hometown of Kandahar. United States Special Forces currently protect the Afghan leader. (Albawaba.com)
