The Algerian army has claimed to have killed at least 22 Islamist militants in a major security operation east of Algiers, reports the BBC.
The raid was in response to an alleged plan to attack the capital city of Algiers, and is considered to be on of the largest in recent years, according to the Algerian Ministry of Defense.
Counter-terrorism operations are likely to increase with the rise of militant groups such as "Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb."
The Algerian army has claimed to have killed upwards of 56 militants since the start of the year.
