The Dubai-based Arabian Anti-Piracy Alliance (APA) said Wednesday that the UAE’s emirate of Fujairah had taken a strong stand against copyright infringement by imprisoning a video pirate, reported the Khaleej Times.
In a statement, the alliance said the Fujairah police raided the pirate operation earlier this year and seized over 500 pirated cassettes, 800 VCDs and 10 VCRs. The case was then transferred to the Fujairah courts and a judge issued a verdict of imprisonment.
Scott Butler, CEO of the APA, was quoted as saying: "The emirate of Fujairah has endorsed the UAE's exemplary efforts in sending a signal to the international community that it will protect legitimate businesses' interests." – Albawaba.com
