ALBAWABA - Local media in Belgium reported that the head of a Baby Jesus figurine in the nativity scene at the Grand Place was stolen one day after the inauguration.
The spokesperson for the mayor of Brussels said in a statement that the vandalizer who entered the nativity scene stole only the head of Baby Jesus, but kept the body. The perpetrator is still unknown.
"I can confirm it was the ball of cloth that served as the head of the baby Jesus that was stolen," spokesperson Victor Kanyanzira revealed. He added, "We are in the process of replacing it."
It is worth noting that since the installation of the nativity scene, it has gained wide debate on social media and was slammed for being too simple.
People and political figures criticized the City of Brussels for placing what was described as too simplistic or too "folksy" for such an iconic location.
The Christmas nativity scene was created by German artist Victoria-Maria, and shows faceless characters.
