Bawadi Mall hosts two campaigns for combating diabetes

Bawadi Mall, one of the prominent shopping centers in Al Ain and one of the newest shopping centers in the UAE, hosted two community outreach campaigns to combat diabetes.
The campaigns were conducted by Tawam Hospital for three days and UAE University for two days in the mall, as part of the World Diabetes Day. Diabetes is one of the most widespread diseases in the UAE.
More than 170 million people suffer from diabetes worldwide and this number could double by 2030. This disease has serious consequences on the health systems and economies of countries worldwide.
Khalid Shraim, Marketing Manager, Bawadi Mall, said: “We expect that these campaigns will achieve positive results through enhanced awareness of the seriousness of diabetes and by encouraging more people to do the tests”.
Prevention and awareness can contribute to reduce the incidence of diabetes. The campaigns enabled visitors to conduct blood tests in the mall for five days.
Shraim added: “The UAE gives top priority to the healthcare sector and conducts regular community outreach campaigns to enhance awareness about health issues. In our campaigns, we encouraged people to check their blood sugar levels with the help of professionals from Tawam Hospital and UAE University separately.”
These two campaigns were part of the CSR programme of Bawadi Mall focused on playing a socially responsible role in society. Diabetes has grown in the last couple of years because of the change in lifestyles.  
Shraim added: “In the face of the rise in cases of diabetes in the UAE, the government is working on combating it through extensive community outreach campaigns targeting all social classes. Bawadi Mall is pleased to support these efforts through these types of campaigns.”
