At least 18 civilians were killed Thursday when the Syrian regime attacked the city with a barrel bomb, a monitor told AFP.
The bomb was dropped from a helicopter onto the eastern part of Aleppo where residents go to buy fuel, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said. AFP reported the government also launched an airstrike in the northern part of Idlib, where seven civilians were killed.
The UN has been trying to implement a ceasefire in Aleppo, where opposing factions have torn apart one of the largest and most historic cities in Syria. UN envoy Staffan de Mistura had recently sent delegation there to try to stop the fighting.
AFP said while Syrian President Bashar al-Assad denies the regime uses barrel bombs, the government regularly drops them on rebel-occupied parts of the country.
