ALBAWABA - The Chadian government announced the closure of all border crossings with Sudan, AFP reported Monday.
Yesterday, the government said it would be closing the key Adre point with West Darfur, to prevent Sudanese armed groups from crossing into Chad, local officials and traders revealed on Sunday.
The decision was made amid intensified clashes between the Sudanese government forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in the Tine area of North Darfur and locations north of the West Darfur state capital, El Geneina.
In addition to closing the border, the Chadian government enhanced military presence on the border with West Darfur and stationed additional units at the Tine crossing in North Darfur.
According to AFP, Chad hosts at least 1 million Sudanese refugees who fled the civil war which erupted in April 2023 between the Sudanese Army and the RSF.
