Warplanes of the U.S.-Arab coalition executed raids on positions and strongholds of the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (IS) in northern Syrian town of Ain Al-Arab, or Kobani, late Tuesday and early Wednesday, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The raids targeted different districts in the city along with towns on the western outskirts of the contested town, located a stone's throw from the Syrian-Turkish border line, said the Observatory in a statement on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the statement noted that 17 Syrian Army troops, ten fighters from the IS and Islamic factions, were killed in clashes in Deir ez-Zor east Syria. The Syrian Army forces advanced to new sectors of the area, while the IS imposed a curfew in the eastern suburbs of Deir ez-Zor city, the Observatory added.

Violent clashes continue in Damascus' rural regions, where dozens of people were killed and injured in ongoing fighting between the Syrian regime and opposition forces.
