The Collectors exhibition concludes today (July 22)
The Collectors, a DSS 2008 Signature Event and an exhibition that has displayed record-setting collections of artifacts from around the world over the past week, will conclude today (July 22) at Wafi, a key sponsor of the summer event.
The presence of local, regional, and international collectors this year has raised the profile of the exhibition with numerous internationally recognized collections being displayed. The event has received much attention from notable local and regional media.
Wendy Suen, from China, who has brought with her the largest collection of snow-globes in the world says, “The Collectors has been a fascinating experience especially because it has given me an opportunity to meet other people from around the world who share the common interest of collecting objects. A lot of visitors have come up to tell me about how these collections have spurred their urge to collect and I believe that is a sign indicating the positive impact of this event.”
Other participants in the exhibition were just as ecstatic on the success of the event. “The response we’ve got from visitors has been incredible. Everyday, there are people who chat with us on our collections and the enthusiasm is evident in their conversation,” said Reinard Weichart who is displaying the world’s second largest collection of ‘Do not disturb’ signs.
Visitors will be able to see the collections of around 14 collectors in the last day of the exhibition. They range from the world’s largest collection of snow globes, the world’s largest collection of licence plates and rosary beads, to the world’s largest collection of bookmarks.
Also included are miniature car collectibles, currency bundles from over 60 countries, and the mixed collection of Suhail Zarooni – a well known local collector, consisting of branded miscellaneous items of Starbucks, Swatch, Cartier, James Bond, and even Harry Potter.
