An attack by Daesh militants on a town in northern Syria Thursday left at least 18 people dead, AFP reported.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said Daesh fighters infiltrated Sarrin, a town in Aleppo province recently captured by Kurdish forces, and attacked a school being used as a base by Kurds.

One attacker blew himself up as the rest opened fired, the monitor told AFP.

At least ten Kurdish fighters were killed in the explosion and subsequent gun battle. Eight members of Daesh, including the suicide bomber, were also killed, the Observatory said.

Kurdish forces captured Sarrin Monday, cutting off the extremist group’s main access road parts of Aleppo province, AFP reported.
