Reuters reports that Daesh launched an attack on military posts in the Tunisia town of Ben Guerdan early Monday, killing at least 16 people.
Ten militants, five civilians, and one Tunisian soldier were killed in the fighting, according to official reports.
Gunfire extended into the center of the town, forcing residents to take cover inside their homes.
Daesh has not released an official statement about the attack yet.
Ben Guerdan lies close to the Libyan border, where Daesh has a strong presence. Though Tunisia has built a fence and increased border security in recent months, the country remains under a "state of emergency."
