According to AFP, Daesh militants have infiltrated and taken control of most of Yarmouk refugee camp in southern Damascus.
"Fighters from [Daesh] launched an assault this morning on Yarmouk and they took over the majority of the camp," Anwar Abdel Hadi, director of political affairs for the Palestine Liberation Organization in Damascus, told AFP.
Yarmouk, located in Damascus, was once home to over 150,000 Palestinian refugees and Syrians. Since fighting began, it is estimated that only 18,000 residents remain, many of whom were trapped inside without any access to aid during the recent winter months.
