ALBAWABA - More than 2,400 residences in Orsk have been flooded as a result of the tragic collapse of a dam along the Ural River in Russia's Orenburg region.
Moscow A section of the Ural River dam broke late yesterday, the regional press office in Orenburg announced.
The ensuing floodwaters trapped almost 11,000 people in an area with 4,258 homes.
As rescue efforts continue, water levels in the impacted areas have risen as high as four meters. Over 4,200 people have had to evacuate as a result of the over 2,400 dwellings that have been swamped by the torrential waters. In addition, 106 highways and 47 bridges in 31 communities have been closed. Twelve of the surrounding communities have experienced power outages.
Three dead from the aftermath have been verified to be recovered, according to Orenburg emergency responders.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations said that efforts are presently under progress to rebuild the dam and rescue persons who are stranded.
Given the increasing rise in the Ural River's water levels, officials have warned of the impending threat of total dam failure and emphasized the severity of the situation.
