Damascus Radio on Saturday expressed wonder over the American administration’s credibility regarding its desire to achieve peace in the region, and its ability to pressure its strategic ally – Israel, in that regard.

The state-run radio asserted that during US President George W. Bush’s recent visit to the Middle East, the main achievement was gaining the Palestinian commitment to fight "terrorism".

It also added, according to SANA, that an additional achievement was the American announcement of its desire to make Israel a Jewish state - which meant eliminating the Palestinians’ right of return, ignoring by that the international resolutions and the Palestinian adherence to this right.

In its daily political commentary, the radio stressed that a just and comprehensive peace would remain absent because Israel wanted a peace imposed by force.

The report concluded by saying that Israel’s refusal to commit itself to the international legitimacy resolutions is the main reason for tension and instability in the region, however this was absent at the recent Sharm al Sheikh and Aqaba summits, due to the “Israeli arrogance” and “US pressure”.
