DIAC Spotlights Dubai in Boston as Regional Leader for Higher Education at 2008 New England Excellence Awards
Dubai International Academic City, a member of TECOM Investments, spotlighted Dubai’s increasingly prominent status as a distinctive regional leader for learning at the New England Board of Higher Education’s (NEBHE) 2008 Excellence Awards, which recently took place in Boston, US.
Recognizing individuals and institutions that have made substantive contributions to improving higher education opportunities for New England students, the event drew senior representatives of over 280 colleges and universities from six north eastern states of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut.
Addressing the august gathering of academic leaders, Dr. Ayoub Kazim, Executive Director of Dubai Knowledge Village and Dubai International Academic City, provided a detailed presentation on the two knowledge clusters.
He said: “Dubai International Academic City is privileged to be a part of this global event that highlights the importance of higher education in achieving sustainable economic growth. We have 21 partner universities from around the globe, including the Hult International Business School from Boston, offering higher education programmes to international students. These course offerings complement the increasing demand for skilled professionals from various industries.
“Dubai International Academic City will continuously provide an environment that is conducive for growth as we strive to develop the region’s talent pool to accelerate Dubai’s move into a knowledge economy.”
Spread across 25 million square feet in Dubai International Academic City, the complex for the world’s only free zone dedicated to higher education provides an intellectually inspiring environment for students and faculty.
“Committed to establishing Dubai as a destination of choice for international education and HR development, DIAC and DKV have received enormous support from the government of Dubai. Accomplishing our mission of comprehensive growth to develop a high calibre labour force could not have been possible without such commitment from the authorities,” added Dr. Kazim.
Hosting 21 reputed international universities from 10 countries including the US, the UK, Belgium, Ireland, Iran, Pakistan, Russia, Australia, France and the Indian Subcontinent, the Dubai Knowledge Village and Dubai International Academic City cater to over 10,000 students. The cluster currently offers under-graduate and post-graduate programmes in computing, engineering and technology, business management, life sciences, fashion, advertising, public relations, retailing and media.
Founded in 1955, the NEBHE is the brainchild of six New England governors who realized that the future prosperity of their region rested on the strength of their academic institutions.
