A ceremony was held Friday at the seat of the Algerian radio in memory of war veteran, journalist and poet Djamel Amrani, who passed away Wednesday in Algiers at the age of 70. In addition to close relatives, present at the ceremony were Algeria's Minister of Culture Khalida Toumi, Minister for Maghreb and African Affairs Abdekader Messahel, senior executives of Algerian institutions, as well as journalists, writers and artists.
Born on 29 August 1935 in Sour El Ghozlane (Bouira), Djamel came from a modest family of nine children of which he was the youngest child. As a very young person, he already was related to poetry. In 1956, he joined the FLN and later was imprisoned by the French occupation.
