DSF 2008 Journalism Award Attracts Significant Attention

The DSF 2008 Journalism Award, an initiative by the DSF Office to honor the efforts of local and regional journalists in promoting DSF to a wider audience has attracted significant attention with innovative categories and an eminent jury. Local and regional journalists in Arabic and English print media can participate for the coveted Award. The last date for submitting entries is February 17, 2008.

The categories for this year include Best Local Feature (local newspapers), Best Magazine Feature (local and regional magazines), Best Design Layout (local newspapers), DSF Prolific Writer (local newspapers), and Best Pan Arab Feature (regional newspapers).

The Best Design Layout category will be awarded to just one team of a newspaper. All other categories will have a winners and a runners-up prize in both English and Arabic. Apart from a trophy and a citation, winners will receive a cash prize of $7000 while runners-up will receive $5000.

The 2008 Journalism Award is also special for the inclusion of a jury comprising of eminent media scholars in the country. Headed by Ghassan Tahboub, a senior media specialist and well-known in the industry, the jury will select a total of eighteen winners.

Entries for the Award will be judged on evaluation criteria including the style of writing, ideas generated quality of content, general recognition, creativity of news angle, element of impact in the story, and overall impact of the story.
