Dubai Customs, in cooperation with the special squad of Dubai Police, has foiled an attempt to smuggle a Toyota Land Cruiser into the country, leading to the seizure of the vehicle and the arrest of the persons behind the act. The stolen Land Cruiser had an Interpol notice served on it.

Realizing that it was otherwise impossible to smuggle the car into the country since Dubai Customs has tight controls in place and is known to maintain strict vigil at the entry points, the offenders approached a Dubai Customs Inspector with an offer of bribe. The Inspector in question made the offenders believe that he was willing to accept their offer, and then duly tipped off the special squad of the Dubai Police. Following this, Dubai Police and Dubai Customs laid a trap and caught the offenders red-handed while handing over the bribe of AED 40,000 and seized the Land Cruiser.

The smugglers had dismantled the Toyota Land Cruiser and had stacked its components into a container, and tried to pass it off as spare parts before the attempt was foiled by Dubai Customs and Dubai Police.

Ahmed Butti Ahmed, Director General of Dubai Customs, said, “I congratulate all those who helped in making this success possible, especially the Dubai Customs Inspector whose prompt action was crucial to frustrating the offenders’ designs. This is a measure of the watchfulness and integrity of Inspectors of Dubai Customs, which has always maintained a high state of alert to prevent counterfeit goods from making their way into the country.”
