Economic Zones World, Dubai Aviation City Corporation (Dubai World Central) join forces to create one of the largest multimodal logistics platforms in the world “The Dubai Logistics Corridor”
Cooperation agreement between 2 entities signed in a major move to more than double the City’s logistics capabilities.

Economic Zones World, through its flagship entity Jafza, and Dubai Aviation City Corporation (responsible for the Dubai World Central “aerotropolis” development) are entering into a collaboration that could result in the doubling of Dubai’s top notch industrial and logistics infrastructure. The agreement sets out to create “The Dubai Logistics Corridor” a transport and logistics corridor, linking sea, land and air, bringing together for the first time in the Middle East all of the components needed to create multi-modal logistics platform.  From a customer perspective, the two entities will effectively act as single entity facilitating the transportation of goods from sea to land and air (and vice versa) in record time.

This agreement will kick start a project that will focus on four areas, the first of which will be the implementation of the transport and logistics corridor.  To develop the multi-modal logistics platform the two entities will cooperate to align their business processes and leverage their key assets of Al Maktoum International Airport, Jebel Ali Port and each party’s respective Free Zones (Jafza for EZW and Dubai Logistics City and Aviation City for DWC).  The development and implementation of common business processes will benefit customers by enabling a seamless and fast transaction turnaround for goods and freight passing between the two adjacent locations.

The second area of focus will be administrative, which aims to develop One-Stop-Shop services including registration, licensing, and management of human capital.

The development of an operational platform will be the third area, setting out consistent rules, regulations and offerings. This would further strengthen support to existing customers and provide a new, powerful value proposition to attract new customers for both entities.

The final piece will focus on business development, where the two entities would align their respective capabilities in areas of marketing and promotion. This would result in a more synergistic and effective approach to acquiring new customers by promoting a unified offering.

The agreement is the first step in delivering upon the Government of Dubai’s commitment to become the logistic and trade hub of the region by developing and implementing the infrastructure and systems required for seamless transition of goods between sea, land and air.  The opening of Al Maktoum International Airport in June 2010 will significantly increase Dubai’s trade, industrial and logistics capacity. The unified project with its extensive facilities, including over a million additional square meters of logistics space when complete, is expected to considerably boost operations and open up to an anticipated workforce of an additional 150,000 people.

The agreement was signed last week by Salma Hareb, Chief Executive Officer of Economic Zones World and Rashed Buqara’a, Chief Operating Officer of Dubai Aviation City Corporation.

“This is a landmark step, which will have a positive impact on Dubai’s status as a leading global commercial and trading hub,” Salma Hareb said at the signing of the agreement. “Our alliance is a commitment to create the “The Dubai Logistic Corridor”, one of the largest multi-modal logistics platforms in the world, linking the largest man-made sea port and the largest airport in the world, creating a Economic Free Zone community and logistics model that is unsurpassed in global connectivity. EZW is delighted to be a part of an initiative that will contribute significantly to the long-term progress of Dubai and the nation,” she added.

Rashed Buqara’a said of the strategic agreement with EZW: “We are proud to be able to announce this alliance with EZW today.  With Dubai World Central’s focus on aviation and logistics combined with EZW’s complimentary strengths in land and sea based connectivity, we are creating a platform which will confirm Dubai's position as the unparalleled center of logistics in the region and as a globally significant player for generations to come.”
