Egyptian authorities arrested an Islamist militant who was previously jailed for Anwar Sadat's assassination, after authorities linked him with al-Qaeda bomb plot activities, according to a Reuters report.
Nabil al-Maghraby, a former naval intelligence officer, jailed for 31 years for his involvement in the 1981 assassination of former Egyptian leader Anwar Sadat, allegedly worked with al-Qaeda operatives in planning bomb attacks since his release from prison in 2012.
"He has been arrested for being a part of a terror organization and for planning bomb attacks in the country," according to security sources.
Maghraby, who was arrested in the town of Qalubiya, is believed to be a close associate of former army major Waleed Badr, who blew himself up in early September in suicide assassination attempt to kill Cairo's interior minister. Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis, a Sinai-based Islamist militant group, released a farewell video of Badr, who urged Muslims to kill government officials in Egypt.
Maghraby was released from jail in 2012 as part of former President Morsi's pardon of 100 political prisoners. Most of the prisoners released were Islamists.
