ALBAWABA - Josep Borrell, European Union's foreign policy chief, announced on Monday that all of the EU foreign ministers have gathered in the Ukrainian capital Kyiv in an official meeting to offer solidarity to the war-torn country.
In a social media post on the platform X, formerly known as Twitter, Broell said: "We are convening a historic meeting of EU Foreign Ministers here in Ukraine, candidate country and future member of the EU. We are here to express our solidarity and support to the Ukrainian people,".
The night prior to the meeting, Borell told reporters "Our support doesn’t depend on how the war is going on in the next days and weeks,".
When asked about the bill passage in Washington regarding the Ukraine war aid, Borell commented: "Let’s see what will happen in the US, but from our side, we will continue supporting and increasing our support. We have to provide permanent and structural support because we are facing an existential threat for Europe".
On the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, Borrell had first revealed intentions to bring his European counterparts on the ground in Ukraine earlier this month.
Russia launched its strongest missile attack against Ukraine in weeks last week, indicating a harsh winter ahead and the possibility of a renewed attempt by Moscow to bombard crucial power plants and other infrastructure.
On September 30th, the European Union's Borell visited Ukraine's besieged Black Sea port city of Odesa, where he called recent Russian assaults on the city "barbaric".
He also criticized Russia's President Vladimir Putin for scrapping a UN-brokered grain agreement that allowed Ukrainian exports over the Black Sea, despite Russia's blockade of the ports, which was considered as critical in addressing the global food crisis and containing grain prices.
