A senior EU representative on Tuesday gave Iranian officials a package of incentives that represents an by world powers to persuade Iran to curb its nuclear program.
According to the AP, EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana met with Iran's top nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani at the Supreme National Security Council building in central Tehran. Solana had arrived Monday night with the package that was agreed to in talks among the five permanent members of the U.N. Security Council plus Germany in Vienna, Austria, on Friday.
He told reporters at Tehran's airport that the West wanted "a new relationship" with Iran and that the package would "allow us to engage in negotiations based on trust, respect and confidence."

Iran will declare its views on Europe's new proposal in accordance with the principle of equal rights and obligations guaranteed under the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), Iran's Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said in Oman on Monday.

According to IRNA, he said Iran's nuclear program was devised 50 years ago with officials from both sides signing the first agreement. "The government of the Islamic Republic of Iran also has plans to build power plants to supply 3,000 megawatts of electricity observing standards set by the International Atomic Energy Agency," Mottaki said.
