The European Parliament general assembly on Thursday rejected motions for an amendment envisaging Turkey's recognition of past "genocide" against Armenians, the Turkish press reported.
The Parliament, according to Anadolu Agency (AA), was discussing the Turkey report prepared by French Christian Democrat Alain Lamassoure.
The decision was linked with the report, said Turkey, whose candidacy was officially recognized in the Helsinki summit.
The decision said the Turkish government's reform program had received support and that there was the political will to implement reforms despite the economic crisis and some tensions.
Pointing out that the National Program gave place to Turkey's accession priorities to the EU to a great extent, the decision underlined that the program timetable should be clarified, said the agency.
The decision also recalled the negative decisions of the Council of Europe and European Court of Human Rights against Turkey, it added.
The Parliament, in a motion for the amendment that was accepted, called for Turkey to give a timetable in one year to fulfil Copenhagen criteria and wanted Turkey to fulfil those criteria within 10 years - Albawaba.com
